Estonia records new temperature high for 2010
15 July 2010A weather station in Narva-Joesuu in northeastern Estonia on Thursday afternoon registered an official air temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius, which marks a new record for this country in 2010.
The reading was recorded shortly before 3 p.m. An hour earlier the official air temperature in Narva-Joesuu was 33.3 degrees above zero, a record for 2010 at the time.
The maximum before that was 33.0 degrees recorded at Pakri in the country's northwest on Tuesday.
On Thursday official temperatures came closest to the record of Narva-Joesuu in Voru in the country's southeast and in Kunda on the North Coast, both of which clocked in temperatures of 32.7 degrees.
The record from Narva-Joesuu probably will hold for at least several days as in the coming days weather is becoming more and more overcast with chances of occasional rain and thunderstorm, the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said.
Estonia's absolute heat record is 35.6 degrees Celsius dating from August 11, 1992.
